The AFMInc Team

David Deigan, Chairman/CEO/CTO

David is the founder of AFMInc and serves as our Chairman, CEO, and Chief Technology Officer. He embraces and encourages initiative in his team, along with a relentless pursuit of improvement.

David combines more than 30 years of hands-on involvement in web-based manufacturing processes including film extrusion, printing, coating, vacuum metallizing, laminating, and converting. His career path in web-fed materials, and, in particular, his direct experience in manufacturing and selling passive energy control to the aerospace and window-insulating film industries, have fueled AFMInc's growth in the 21st century.

David ran his first competitive foot race in 1955 and devoted many years to coaching in the sport, which continues to be one of his passions. He is one of the co-founders of the San Francisco Road Runners Club, is on the Board of Advisors of the San Francisco Marathon, was recently elected to his second term on the Board of Running USA, and serves on the Board of Advisors of Just Run - San Francisco, a program committed to providing fitness programs to at-risk kids in his home city.

The former USAF Captain is a Vietnam veteran who served as a logistics officer, a missile crew commander/instructor, and plans and intelligence officer during his nearly nine years of active duty. He earned a Bronze Star and two Air Force Commendation Medals for his service to his country. He holds a B.S. in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University and has completed numerous post-graduate courses in general management, organizational leadership, product management, and marketing.

Michelle Christensen, Operations Manager

Michelle joined AFM in April 2008 after completing two Bachelor of Art degrees in International Business from San Diego State University and the Universidad de Valparaiso in Chile. Utilizing her diverse educational background, she is successfully working to centralize the company’s U.S. manufacturing to expedite production and minimize AFM’s carbon footprint. Michelle is continually building relationships with new vendors to provide optimal solutions to our customers’ needs. Michelle has also assisted with ensuring the company’s compliance with US Consumer Product Safety regulations and customs laws pertaining to importing and exporting of all AFMInc products.

Michelle has a deep passion for exploring the world and learning from those around her. She is not only fluent in Spanish, but has participated in several international internships throughout Latin America. She has applied these experiences in her business relationships with AFM’s vendors and customers located around the world.

Having grown up in the Bay Area, Michelle has always been an avid runner, biker and hiker. She spends her spare time with her husband and two dogs enjoying the outdoors. She hopes to one day complete her first half marathon and earn her first official Heatsheet®.

Lisa Jones, Sales & Development

Lisa comes to AFM with 14+ years of sales and design experience in the textile materials and apparel industries. She is well tuned to the outdoor and activity enthusiast, having worked with designers and suppliers at companies such as Timberland, Eddie Bauer, VF, Nike, Timbuck2, and DaKine. Her developed perspective and edgy, creative spirit has Lisa consistently putting forward sound ideas and innovative solutions.

After achieving a degree in Textile Technology and Design and recognition as a Designer of the Year, Lisa continued to feed her tenacious curiosity of textile technology by starting her own business. She has provided services in areas such as sales and marketing, trend/market research, international sourcing and product development. Lisa understands the many intricacies of concept planning through to production, giving her unique insights that lead to a solution-oriented service approach for AFM’s customers. For Lisa, it’s about applying creativity and a collaborative working style to build win-win relationships.

A life enthusiast and innovative thinker who likes to test limits, Lisa enjoys competing in Adventure Races and even started her own hiking club in Marin so that she and others can continue to explore the path less traveled. Outside her door is Mt. Burdell, which she loves to climb by foot or bike so that she can scream down.
